CWOVC workshop: Teaching Scholarly Reading Skills in the Disciplines

  • Seall Hall 307

The Center for Written, Oral, & Visual Communication (CWOVC) invites you to join our faculty panelists from Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities for a conversation about why and how they have worked to improve their students' abilities to read academic texts. Panelists Jeff Fleisher (anthropology), Beth Beason (biosciences), and Fay Yarbrough (history) will share time-tested activities from their own classrooms; panelist Dave Messmer (Program in Writing & Communication) will explain how schema theory supports the need to teach these skills explicitly even to high achieving students.
